This project will replace a portion of an existing 230-kilovolt (kV) above-ground line in Tysons with a new 230kV underground line running from the existing Tysons substation on Tyco Road and terminating at a structure near the Future Spring Hill Substation southwest of Leesburg Pike and Spring Hill Road.
May 4-9, 2023 – Manhole #2 installation. This manhole is located in Phase B, and is one of two manholes to be installed for this project. Manhole work is complete, and trenching has begun starting at this manhole heading toward Spring Hill Rd.
May 30, 2023 – Manhole #1 installation work, originally scheduled for late April 2023, has been rescheduled to June 2-6, 2023. This manhole is located in Phase E and is one of two manholes to be installed for this project.
This manhole installation will require a closure of the Vesper Trail beginning Friday morning, June 2. The trail is expected to reopen Tuesday, June 6. Crews will work continuously throughout the weekend (day and night) to complete this work.
August 2023 – Trenching work is ongoing in Phase A and Phase C, primarily at night, with most of the work being within the roadways. Expect delays and detours if driving in these areas during nighttime hours.
Work along Vesper Trail will begin in November 2023 and last through early 2024. The trail will be closed while work is ongoing.
March 2024 – The Vesper Trail is open to use. Most duct bank installation has been completed and work will pick back up later in the spring with cable pulling along the underground route, installation of the overhead transition structure near the Vesper Trail, and work at Tysons Substation.
