Central South BendReliability Project

The Central South Bend Reliability Project includes constructing approximately 2 miles of new transmission line built to 69-kilovolt (kV) standards. The line will connect the new Muessel Substation and the existing Colfax Substation. The project will allow for the retirement of the Drewry Substation. A majority of the line will be constructed underground and operate at 34.5 kV.

The project is critical to improve the reliability of the transmission grid - the backbone of the electric system - by adding another power source to feed the area. The improvements will lessen the frequency and duration of power outages.

Project Updates

Early 2018: Indiana Michigan Power announces the final line route for the underground line which will connect the Colfax Substation, which will be rebuilt, to the new Muessel Substation. The announcement follows a comprehensive siting study, public and key stakeholder input, and a public open house in February.
