Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) representatives plan power grid upgrades to improve electric reliability for customers in Fort Wayne.
The Glenbrook Area Substation and Line Removal Project involves:
Retiring the existing 4-mile line involves removing transmission wires and tops of poles. Lower-voltage distribution wires, third-party utilities and associated poles may remain.
The project strengthens the electric transmission system in the area by reconfiguring the power grid to allow I&M representatives to retire deteriorating infrastructure from the 1960s. Building the new substation allows the company to retire the 4-mile transmission line. The new substation connects to a higher voltage transmission line along Wells Street allowing for future economic development in the area.
Company officials expect construction to begin early 2023 and conclude late 2023.
