Northern St. Joseph CountyArea Improvements Project


Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) representatives plan to upgrade the electric transmission network serving customers in northern Indiana.

The project involves:

  • Building about 3 miles of 138-kilovolt transmission line
  • Building a substation off Adams Road

The improvements:

  • Provide an additional power source to support the area’s industrial growth
  • Provide residential customers with more reliable electric service
  • Encourage additional economic development with increased power capacity

Company officials expect construction to begin in spring 2023 and conclude in summer 2023.

I&M announced the Northern St. Joseph County Area Improvements Project in December 2020

I&M hosted a virtual open house to introduce proposed study segments and answer questions related to the project at the end of 2020

I&M proposed a route for the 3-mile power line in January 2021
