Indiana Michigan Power representatives plan power grid upgrades to improve electric reliability for customers in northern Indiana. The Swanson Substation Improvements Project involves expanding and improving Swanson Substation, located off Hickory Road, near Springwood Drive in Clay Township.
The project strengthens the electric transmission system in the area by modernizing the local power grid allowing I&M representatives to update vintage infrastructure dating back to the 1950s to modern standards. The upgrades improve the substation’s operational performance, reduce the frequency of maintenance and enhance electric reliability for area customers.
Project plans call for construction to begin in spring 2025 and conclude in early 2026.
