Esmont - ScottsvilleProject
The Esmont–Scottsville component is part of the Central Virginia Transmission Reliability Project. This phase includes rebuilding approximately 6 miles of existing transmission line and upgrading two substations in Albemarle County. Plans also include upgrades to the local distribution network.
Company representatives expect construction to begin in early 2024 and conclude the end of the 2024.
Project Updates
1/13/2021 - The project team plans to submit the Esmont –Scottsville phase of the Central Virginia Transmission Reliability Project to Albemarle County later this year for approval.
August 7, 2020 - Appalachian Power representatives are hosting a virtual open house for the Esmont - Scottsville phase of the Central Virginia Transmission Reliability Project.
Project representatives encourage landowners to submit their feedback about the project by September 7. To provide comments on how this project affects your property or to provide special conditions related to your property use the comment form at the bottom of this page or call 833-313-3743.
February 13, 2020 - Appalachian Power representatives are reviewing the existing power line that begins at Esmont Substation off of Irish Road, travels east forapproximately 6 miles, and end at Scottsville Substation off of James River Road. Right-of-way agents plan to contact landowners with existing easements along the line route.

Structures
The project primarily involves using steel H-frame structures to rebuild the existing transmission line. Structure type may vary depending on the location.
